Dr. Robert Kress is a board-certified colorectal surgeon dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for patients with conditions of the colon, rectum, and anus. He specializes in the surgical treatment of colon and rectal cancer, diverticular disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease, rectal prolapse and other anorectal conditions (anal fistula, fissure, hemorrhoids, incontinence).
Dr. Kress has a particular interest in robotic surgery, using advanced surgical techniques to provide effective treatment while minimizing pain, complications, and recovery time. He uses natural orifice surgery (rectal or vaginal extraction of the colon) in settings of benign colon disease to limit abdominal incisions, post op pain, risk of hernia, and decrease recovery time. His extensive experience with robotic surgery allows him to approach complex procedures with precision while keeping the patient’s individual goals and quality of life at the center of care.
He believes that excellent colorectal care begins with listening and meeting his patients where they are. Dr. Kress takes the time to explain diagnoses and treatment options in clear, understandable terms. He works closely with each patient to develop a personalized treatment plan. Whether surgery is necessary or not, his goal is to help patients feel informed, comfortable, and confident in their care.
Outside of the operating room, Dr. Kress enjoys spending time with his wife and twin boys, gardening, playing golf, and watching football. He is proud to serve patients in the Kansas City community and is committed to providing the highest level of specialized colorectal care.
Facilities:
He primarily performs elective Robotic and laparoscopic procedures at NKC Health and Centerpoint Hospitals. He has privileges and performs non-elective procedures at HCA facilities Menorah, Overland Park Regional, Lee’s Summit as well as Advent Shawnee Mission, Advent Lenexa City Center, and Advent S. Overland Park.
He performs anorectal and endoscopy procedures at two surgery centers: Briarcliff Surgery Center and Centerpoint Surgery Center where he is in a limited partnership.
